MUMBAI: Bollywood star actor Hrithik Roshan, has revealed that he shot scenes for the film Fighter inside Sukhoi fighter jets. He said that the experience of shooting an aerial action thriller inside the Sukhoi jets was described as incredible and highly inspiring by Hrithik.
The shooting for the film touted to be India's first aerial action franchise began in March 2023 and Hrithik plays a character named Indian Air Force (IAF) officer Shamsher Pathania or 'Patty' who is described as a young, spontaneous and angry man. The plot of the movie as known in public revolves aspiring young man who fulfils his lifelong dream of joining the IAF and how he faces rigorous personal challenges to become a fighter pilot and is tasked with a mission to save his country from a dangerous enemy.
Talking about the character Hrithik has said Patty is quite an interesting character and is quite similar to his younger self. "It is very interesting as Patty, in many ways, in maturity, and age-wise too, is a little younger than me or how Kabir is. Kabir is more evolved and composed. Patty is young, spontaneous and angry, angry at things that maybe I would not personally be angry at. So, Patty is an interesting space for me because I remember me being like that at some point in my life," he said.
Kabir is a character played by Hrithik in the 2019 Indian action thriller film War in which he is the leader of the elite shadow unit of R&AW, a compact group of soldiers of the armed forces who are personally trained by him and work with him on various high-risk missions across the world1. The film follows Kabir and his team as they chase after his mentor who has gone rogue following an unexpected kill.
Talking about the shoot Hrithik has said that they shot for about 12 days inside the Sukhois and with the Sukhois. "It has been incredible and it’s been so inspiring just to be around the Indian Air Force. I learnt so much, the body language, the decorum, the discipline, what they are up against every single day," he said.
Hrithik is known for his passion for fitness and for performing his own stunts. However, shooting inside Sukhoi fighter jets has been a new and challenging experience for him. Roshan said he had already started preparing himself mentally and physically to endure the high-intensity shoot during the pre-production period.
In 2004 he acted in Lakshya, a coming-of-age war-drama film directed by Farhan Akhtar and played Karan Shergill, an aimless and lazy boy from Delhi who joins the Indian Army and transforms himself into a soldier to make his girlfriend Romila Dutta played by Preity Zinta proud of him. The film also had Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani and Anjula Bedi in supporting roles and was based on the 1999 Kargil War.
Figher is being produced by Siddharth Anand which will be Hrithik’s third movie with him after Bang Bang and War and also features Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor in lead roles and is scheduled for a 2024 release.
