Actress Chrisann Pereira arrested in Sharjah comes back home

MUMBAI: Actress Chrisann Pereira, who was arrested in Sharjah United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a fake drug case in April, returned back home to Mumbai after four months. She was acquitted by a court in June but had to remain back due to formalities and other procedures as per UAE laws.

When Pereira landed in Mumbai, her family greeted her with teary eyes. Her father and brother embraced her with warm hugs as she sobbed inconsolably at the reunion after a lengthy separation. Chrisann's mother had also brought her dog with her to cheer her up. Her brother, Kevin Pereira, shared a video of their reunion on social media.

Kevin posted the video with the caption, "Chrisann is finally back and reunited with us I know I had announced in June that she would be back but it took slightly longer and she’s finally back."

She later met the police officials who had helped her get out of the case. Addressing a press conference with Chrisann DCP Raj Tilak Roushan said that she has been arrested in Sharjah for a drugs case while here in Mumbai her mother made a complaint regarding the case that she didn't take the drugs herself, it has been planted and a few people have played a role in this so, we need to bring her justice.

"We took her application and registered an FIR on which we investigated and found that three people who had a rivalry with her gave her a memento in which they planted drugs with the intention of framing her saying that some persons had asked her to hand over to someone in the UAE," Roushan said.

On arrival at Sharjah, Pereira was apprehended at the airport on April 1 after drugs were found inside the memento and lodged in the prison. Meanwhile, after their investigation, Mumbai police arrested two of the accused, Anthony Paul and his friend Rajesh alias Ravi Bobhate who had allegedly demanded Rs 80 lakh from Chrisann's mother to arrange for her release. Their plan to frame the actress was also revealed.

The police then sent the case-related documents to authorities in the UAE, after which she was released although it took some time for her to return due to the completion of lengthy legal procedures and other formalities.

During the press conference, Pereira thanked for the support from Mumbai police in her case, she also mentioned that it was strange to be in a cell with fellow inmates and expressed gratitude for the warm welcome she received upon her return.
