Provisional turnout for second phase polls at 64.7% against 69.4%

The second phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded on Friday. As of 10 pm, voter turnout data for 88 constituencies showed a decrease, continuing the trend seen in the first phase, compared to the 2019 elections.
The Election Commission reported a provisional turnout of 64.2%, with expectations for a slight increase as voters remained in line to cast their ballots in parts of Rajasthan, West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra up until around 6 pm. In 2019, the turnout for 85 of the 88 constituencies that voted on Friday was 69.64%.
As of Friday night, turnout figures were 59.6% in Maharashtra, 57% in Bihar, and 54.8% in Uttar Pradesh, compared to 63%, 63%, and 62%, respectively, in 2019. Rajasthan, which had 12 seats in the first phase and 13 in the second phase, recorded a turnout of 64.07% by 11 pm for the second phase, down from 68% in 2019.
Kerala, with all 20 of its Lok Sabha seats up for election on Friday, had a turnout of 71.16% by 11 pm, compared to 78% in 2019. Karnataka, where 14 seats were contested, saw a turnout of 68.38% by 11 pm, slightly up from 67% in 2019 for the same seats. The single seat in Tripura had a turnout of 79.59%, compared to 82.9% in 2019.
For the first phase of voting on April 19, which covered 102 seats, the provisional turnout was around 63% by the end of the day, with the final figure rising to 66% the following day.
