Prime Minister Modi urges Russian President Vladimir Putin to end Ukraine war

MUMBAI: In a significant diplomatic move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday conveyed to Russian President Vladimir Putin the urgent need to resolve the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict through peaceful means. He told Putin that India is ready to assist in facilitating peace talks to end the ongoing conflict. The conversation took place during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia.

During their conversation, Modi underscored India's commitment to diplomatic solutions, emphasizing that true resolution comes through dialogue, not violence. He highlighted India’s stance on peace, echoing his consistent message that conflicts should not be resolved amid ongoing warfare.

PM Modi reiterated India's long-standing position on the Ukraine situation, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. He expressed New Delhi's readiness to provide all possible cooperation to end the war and restore peace and stability in the region. "We believe that problems should be resolved only through peaceful means," Modi stated during the meeting.

The meeting between the two leaders also covered other significant issues, including bilateral relations, trade, investment, and the expansion of the BRICS grouping. Modi highlighted the close coordination and deep friendship between India and Russia, noting that his two visits to Russia in the past three months reflected this strong bond.

President Putin acknowledged Prime Minister Modi's concerns and expressed appreciation for India's support in seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict. He reiterated Russia's willingness to engage in peace talks and emphasized the importance of maintaining strong ties with India.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has been a point of contention on the global stage, with various countries calling for an end to hostilities. India's diplomatic efforts, led by Prime Minister Modi, aim to mediate and facilitate dialogue between the warring parties.
